In my book, The Dissociate: A memoir of secrets and survival of childhood sexual abuse I talk about the many stages of healing in Chapter Six.

Stage Three of my Healing Continuum is having a voice and breaking the silence. “It takes a great deal of courage to share what happened to you. The powerful healing force behind telling another human being will help you move forward. Break the silence.”

Thank you to all the courageous warriors sharing their stories yesterday. You have a voice and you are healing

You are not alone

I met several survivors at the signing this past weekend at Indigo CrossIron Mills. Courageous warriors that have big bold voices for the world to hear the truth and some just taking that first step in the healing process. Child abuse of any sort can leave lasting scares. And mental illness is often the result. Mental illness changes the way people feel, think and sometimes act.

The pain and struggle victims endure stay with them for life.
Those imbedded scars NEVER go away. New research is now revealing what happens to the brain in the aftermath of early-life abuse. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/319566.php

The economic impact of child abuse on society is staggering.
According to the Day model, which measures the judicial, social services, education, health, employment and personal costs of violence:
The total costs of child abuse (including child sexual abuse) are estimated to be $15,705,910,947 annually.

Please get educated to END childhood sexual abuse.

authentic purpose, Indigo/Chapters Stores, live a life without shame, The Dissociate: A memoir of secrets and survival of childhood sexual abuse

The last 6 months have been full of ups and downs

I’m most proud of the release of my new book and the healing journey it took me on.
The Dissociate: A Memoir of Secrets and Survival of Childhood Sexual Abuse

I’m least proud of the darkness I experienced. At times dwelling on thoughts that have nothing to do with the present.

The universe has a way of providing all of us with gentle nudges in the direction we need to move in life to reach our authentic purpose.
The key is to listen.
In moments of darkness, I found it difficult to listen because of the loud chatter in my head.

These nudges from the universe and friends have taken me to a new chapter.

I’m thrilled to share that my book is not only available for purchase through my website and Amazon Worldwide https://debbieehrstien.com/about-the-book/  As of this week, it’s available at Indigo/Chapters Stores. In the coming weeks I have been asked to participate in book signings at some of the local stores. I have graciously accepted and will continue to follow my purpose to help other survivors and supporters of sexual abuse and live a life without shame.

Dissociate, The Dissociate, The Dissociate: A memoir of secrets and survival of childhood sexual abuse

After hours of deliberation my book finally has a name. I’m so excited to bring to life – The Dissociate: A memoir of secrets and survival of childhood sexual abuse. Choosing a book title took effort. It’s almost like naming your new born child in a way. However, the gestation of this project was greater than nine months. Companies spend millions on naming new products so I guess it makes sense that there was a bit of a struggle.

Why ‘The Dissociate’? As a young child when I was unable to escape situations, my protection was to go away in my head. To disconnect from the emotional and physical pain. It was a cleaver self protection and survival technique that allowed me to function. I was so seasoned at dissociating that anytime I was faced with a threatening circumstance, I’d ‘Dissociate’.

My new baby so to speak will be available late June 2017.
I’m excited to introduce you to ‘The Dissociate’.
