The last 6 months have been full of ups and downs

I’m most proud of the release of my new book and the healing journey it took me on.
The Dissociate: A Memoir of Secrets and Survival of Childhood Sexual Abuse

I’m least proud of the darkness I experienced. At times dwelling on thoughts that have nothing to do with the present.

The universe has a way of providing all of us with gentle nudges in the direction we need to move in life to reach our authentic purpose.
The key is to listen.
In moments of darkness, I found it difficult to listen because of the loud chatter in my head.

These nudges from the universe and friends have taken me to a new chapter.

I’m thrilled to share that my book is not only available for purchase through my website and Amazon Worldwide https://debbieehrstien.com/about-the-book/  As of this week, it’s available at Indigo/Chapters Stores. In the coming weeks I have been asked to participate in book signings at some of the local stores. I have graciously accepted and will continue to follow my purpose to help other survivors and supporters of sexual abuse and live a life without shame.

Anxiety and The Fidget Spinner

Fidget Spinners – the new calming mechanism that provides increased focus and stress relief. Or at least it did for me. Rather than playing with my hair, biting my nails or rubbing my chin this appeared to be a healthy alternative.

I also believe that it’s good for those evenings where you are just kicking back watching some mindless television. Rather than mindless eating during this downtime (which I’ve been known to do) place a spinner in your hand and mindlessly spin.
My son’s latest venture is: https://spinner-direct.com/
Check it out!
Over the years I’ve attended many training sessions for my career as a financial expert. I found it interesting that in front of each and every student was either a small toy of some sort, stress ball, etc. I believe it helps you focus when learning new skills.
Spinners aren’t just for kids!

Dissociate, The Dissociate, The Dissociate: A memoir of secrets and survival of childhood sexual abuse

After hours of deliberation my book finally has a name. I’m so excited to bring to life – The Dissociate: A memoir of secrets and survival of childhood sexual abuse. Choosing a book title took effort. It’s almost like naming your new born child in a way. However, the gestation of this project was greater than nine months. Companies spend millions on naming new products so I guess it makes sense that there was a bit of a struggle.

Why ‘The Dissociate’? As a young child when I was unable to escape situations, my protection was to go away in my head. To disconnect from the emotional and physical pain. It was a cleaver self protection and survival technique that allowed me to function. I was so seasoned at dissociating that anytime I was faced with a threatening circumstance, I’d ‘Dissociate’.

My new baby so to speak will be available late June 2017.
I’m excited to introduce you to ‘The Dissociate’.

I had the pleasure of meeting an amazing woman recently, a photographer, artist, graphic designer, filmmaker, traveller, art therapist, videographer and writer to name a few.

Her mantra
LET THINGS THAT WANT TO BELONG TO YOU FIND YOU

Julie is the mastermind behind an ‘experiment in serendipity’.
Stone Stories.
She writes meaningful messages on beautiful stones. She then places them around the world for people to find.”I am curious to know if these little heartwarming messages resonate with those who find them. If it impacts them in some way. I am a believer in destiny. In things being exactly as they are meant to.
That includes you finding yourself here”.
I’m so glad our paths crossed. My new sista and friend.

Here’s a little sneak peek at one of the chapters in my upcoming Book

My Self Care Diet
All my friends know me as a Foodie. I have a love for cooking and eating. Diet & nutrition and many other lifestyle changes has led to a healthier happier me. I became interested in what I was consuming because at times I felt horrible after eating certain foods. Mentally and physically. After all, we are what we eat right?
I had the pleasure of getting to know a friend who ate like a caveman. But he certainly didn’t look like one. He was the picture of health. His way of eating was called ‘Paleo diet’.
The Paleo way of eating is an effort to eat like we used to way back in the day. Consisting of a clean diet without additives, preservatives, or chemicals. No refined sugars or processed foods. And an abundance of organic vegetables, oils, nuts and seeds. And meat.
I didn’t adopt the paleo culture completely because I choose to eat meat and seafood only occasionally.

In my upcoming book I list the foods that have led to a healthier happier me. 😊

I’m so fortunate to be working with Lea Storry, Editor and Professionally trained Journalist. Lea has lived and worked around the world – The Gambia, South Korea, New Brunswick, Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia and the Northwest Territories.

My manuscript is with Lea and is in the editing process as we speak. The rewriting/redrafting process has been a lot more work then I originally anticipated. I believe my readers will thank me for this in the end.

I’m looking forward to sharing my story with the world and making a difference in the lives of survivors of childhood sexual abuse & their supporters.
