I’ve learned that my inner child also requires lots of love ❤️, attention and compassion. Something that didn’t come easy for me. It was difficult to connect with that part of me because I was trying so desperately to forget that part of my life.
I came across a great writing exercise that was helpful — I wrote a letter to my inner child expressing the sadness I felt towards the loss of my childhood innocence and included an apology for being so hard on that beautiful little person.
We shall not cease from exploration. And the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.

Loving yourself completely can at times be a challenge as you heal from childhood sexual abuse. Writing a love letter to yourself is a great exercise to bring compassion to yourself when you need it most.

The more survivors I talk to the more I realize what a debilitating, dangerous emotion shame is. The most powerful way to begin overcoming shame is to start telling your story about your abuse. If you don’t, shame will continue to exist. Speaking the truth will truly set you free. I really like this article: 7 steps to Move through Shame, Fear and Regret

I started positive journaling a few months ago. It has allowed me to focus on all the positive attributes of my life.
Gratitude really does reduce stress. Recognizing what I am thankful for on a daily basis even during the most difficult times fosters resilience within me.❤️
